This policy is a draft and is being reviewed before Settled Years launches.
Settled Years helps you plan Medicare and Social Security decisions. This page explains exactly what we keep, why, and how to delete it. The short version: we keep as little as we can, we encrypt your plan, we never ask for Social Security or Medicare numbers, and we never sell your information.
The free checker
The checker on our home page runs entirely in your browser. What you type there is not sent to us or stored anywhere.
If you create an account
- Your email address, so we can send you sign-in links and, if you want them, monthly reminders.
- Your plan answers (names, birth dates, health coverage, income estimates, preferences). They are encrypted before they are saved to our database, so they can't be read without our encryption key.
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days. It is used only to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Sign-in link records: we keep only a scrambled fingerprint of each link, and delete them a day after they expire.
If you join the launch list or buy a plan
If you join the launch list, we keep your email address and which plan you were interested in, only to tell you when plans open. If you buy a plan, payment is handled by Stripe: your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. We keep your email address, the plan you bought, the amount and the date.
When you ask our AI to read something
If you use the letter reader or describe your situation in your own words, that photo or text is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to be read, and the result is sent back to you. We don't store the photo or the text. We keep only a daily count of how many times your account used these features, to prevent overuse. The letter reader is instructed to ignore identification numbers, and the description reader is instructed to leave out identification numbers and health conditions.
What we never collect
We never ask for or store Social Security numbers, Medicare numbers, bank or card numbers, or passwords. Forms we prepare leave those spaces blank for you to fill in by hand.
Companies that help us run Settled Years
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the website. |
| Neon | Stores accounts and encrypted plans. |
| Resend | Sends sign-in and reminder emails. |
| Stripe | Processes payments. |
| Anthropic | Reads letters and descriptions when you ask it to. |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the typeface; your browser requests it from Google. |
They process information only to provide these services to us. We don't sell or rent your information to anyone, and we don't show ads.
Deleting your information
Use Delete my account on your plan page. It immediately removes your account, your saved plan and your reminder history. Copies may remain in our providers' short-term backups until those backups expire. To stop reminder emails without deleting anything, use the link at the bottom of any reminder.
Children
Settled Years is meant for adults planning for retirement and is not intended for anyone under 18.
Changes and questions
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell account holders by email. Questions: [CONTACT EMAIL].
